Anillo de Picos

~120 km · +8,000 m · 9 days · Hiking · Challenging

Best: June–October

Nine days traversing all three massifs of the Picos de Europa — one of the most dramatic mountain landscapes in southern Europe. The Anillo Integral links nine mountain refuges across 120 km of limestone terrain, crossing the Western, Central, and Eastern massifs through deep gorges, high alpine plateaus, and villages that cling to the edges of vertical valleys. The route passes beneath the Naranjo de Bulnes — a 500-metre limestone wall that defines the skyline of the Central massif — and follows the legendary Ruta del Cares gorge before climbing back into the high peaks. The terrain is raw: trailless sections navigated by cairns, steep couloirs, fog that rolls in without warning, and the kind of karst landscape where the rock itself is the path. Nine days means nine refuges, nine communal dinners, and the kind of fellowship that forms when people walk the same hard ground together. This is the full circle — not a shortcut through one massif, but the complete ring.
